“Fallout 4” Coming to Epic Games Store with Reduced Storage Requirements?
The popular video game “Fallout 4” will soon be available on the Epic Games Store (EGS), requiring substantially less storage space than its counterpart on Steam. According to details from the Epic Games Store webpage, the EGS version of “Fallout 4 – Game of the Year Edition” will only require 30 GB of storage space, a significant reduction compared to the 93.14 GB needed for the Steam version.
Here’s the screenshot comparing the required storage for the EGS and Steam version –
This discrepancy in storage requirements has led us to speculate about the reasons behind the considerable difference. First, we think the larger file size on Steam likely includes the high-resolution texture pack, which alone requires 58 GB. This addition significantly increases the overall storage needed for the game. The base game of “Fallout 4,” without the high-resolution texture pack, matches the storage requirements listed for the EGS version.
The high-resolution texture pack, while available as DLC, is not a mandatory component of the “Fallout 4” video game. It is designed to enhance the game’s visuals but at the cost of additional storage space and possibly longer loading times.
Furthermore, we tried the first installation of “Fallout 4” without the high-resolution textures or additional content that did not exceed 30 GB. This means the inclusion of mods, saves, texture packs, and other downloadable content can significantly impact the amount of storage space the game consumes.
So, to sum it up, there’s no difference between the storage requirement for EGS and Steam editions. However, the only good thing is now you’ve got two options to download Fallout 4 on your system.
