Honkai: Star Rail Coming to PS5 as a Physical Disc

Big news for gamers: HoYoverse says “Honkai: Star Rail” will be available as a Physical disc for PlayStation 5 (PS5).

This marks the first time a HoYoverse game will be available on a physical disc rather than solely via digital download.

We believe that the physical edition of “Honkai: Star Rail” could become a valuable collectible in the future, similar to other game discs that have appreciated over time. The preorder page is currently live, although the final release date has yet to be confirmed.

Is Honkai: Star Rail Physical Disk Practical?

Despite the excitement, there are questions surrounding the practicality of a physical release for a free-to-play (F2P) game.

Since “Honkai: Star Rail” is an online game that requires continuous updates, the disc may quickly become outdated. Additionally, significant updates will likely be necessary upon installation, reducing the immediate utility of the physical version

What’s HoYoverse Up To?

This move may be a strategic decision by HoYoverse to explore the market for future physical disc offerings. Exclusive in-game content, such as cosmetics or bonuses, may be included to entice purchases.

However, we’ve some skepticism about whether these exclusives will justify the retail price.

My Thoughts

I’m excited to have a physical copy of a gacha game. However, practically, this isn’t worth the money.

The only way HoYoverse can convince me to buy the physical disc is if they’re willing to offer something big. Otherwise, I’m more than happy to spend on some in-game purchases
