Nintendo to Skip Gamescom 2024 Amid Record-Breaking Attendance Expectations
Nintendo has confirmed to German publication Games Wirtschaft that it will not participate in Gamescom 2024, one of the most popular gaming events, which is set to take place in Cologne. The event, which attracted more than 320,000 visitors in 2023, is expected to draw an even larger crowd this year. Despite the anticipated record-breaking attendance, Nintendo has opted out of the event, marking a notable absence in the gaming community.
The news was confirmed by the company, which has previously used Gamescom as a platform to showcase its latest games and hardware. Nintendo’s decision to skip the event has left fans and industry professionals wondering about the reasons behind it. While the company has not disclosed the specific reasons for its absence, it is speculated that strategic decisions about event participation, scheduling conflicts, or other operational considerations might have played a role.
The official readout from the Spokesperson for Nintendo of Europe says,”Gamescom is a central event in Nintendo’s event calendar. This year, however, after careful consideration, we decided against taking part in Cologne. Instead, players can try out the games for Nintendo Switch as part of other Germany-wide events.”
Gamescom, which is described by Germany’s Federal Association of Interactive Entertainment Software as “one of the most popular ever,” is a significant event for the gaming industry. It serves as a platform for showcasing various games and new tech. Its absence from Nintendo’s calendar could be seen as a missed opportunity for the company and its fans.
The Gamescom event is scheduled to take place in Cologne from August 21 to August 25, 2024. The event will be held at the trade fair grounds in Cologne, Germany.
