Major Blunders Nintendo Should Avoid with Switch 2
For the past few months, we’ve been hearing about the Switch 2 release. This led us to expect big things from Nintendo at the Gamescom 2024 event. However, at the last minute, Nintendo decided to skip it.
Nonetheless, we’re months away from getting our hands on the upcoming Switch console. Before that, though, here’s a list of major blunders Nintendo should avoid before releasing the next console.
Bad Name Choice:
I think the name is super important. If Nintendo picks a name that doesn’t clearly show it’s the next Switch, it could confuse buyers. They should avoid weird names like “Wii U” or anything that doesn’t make it clear it’s the next version.
Changing Too Much:
Nintendo shouldn’t change the Switch idea too much. I think it’s best to keep what works and just make it better with improved tech and features.
Too Expensive:
Price is a big deal.
If the Switch 2 costs way more than the first Switch, like $500, it might turn off many Nintendo fans.
Nintendo projects a conservative estimate for the fiscal year 2025, I think $300 is the right price to keep it affordable for families and casual gamers.
Can’t Play Old Games:
When Nintendo Switch 2 releases, we want to be able to play our old Switch games on the new console. If we can’t, current Switch owners might not want to upgrade because they don’t want to buy all their games again.
Not Enough Good Games at Launch:
The Switch 2 needs great games right from the start.
Without exciting new games to play, people won’t have a good reason to buy it. We don’t want to see a situation like Nintendo 3DS which had this same problem and because of that, had to lower its price soon after launch.
Old-fashioned Look and Feel:
I believe that the current Switch menu and social features are outdated. If Nintendo doesn’t improve these, it would annoy potential buyers from buying the new console. A more modern, user-friendly setup could help attract new buyers and keep existing Switch buyers happy.
Unclear About New Nintendo Games:
Clarity in communication regarding first-party software support is crucial.
There needs to be strong messaging that showcases exclusive features and games that make the new console appealing, especially for casual gamers looking for easy, understandable reasons to adopt the new system.
Value for Money:
We at GGInsiders believe that the discerned value and affordability of the Switch were significant factors in its success. If Nintendo prices the Switch 2 too high, it could fail to attract the same broad demographic, thereby risking its market position.
Trying Too Hard for Amazing Graphics:
If Nintendo focuses too much on super high-quality graphics, it might make the console too expensive or ignore other important features. Nintendo is often best when it focuses on fun gameplay rather than trying to compete with the other powerful consoles.
Confusing Ads:
Good advertising is crucial. Nintendo needs to make it really clear why people should want the Switch 2. They should avoid confusing ads like they had for the Wii U.
With Nintendo projecting a conservative estimate for the fiscal year 2025, it needs to boost its sales growth. This can only happen if Nintendo releases the next console without making these common mistakes.
If Nintendo avoids these mistakes, it can build on the Switch’s success and make the Switch 2 another big hit.
